The foot is the whole point. A colander that sits flat in the sink drains into whatever was in
the sink before it; one with a raised base keeps the pasta above the waterline.
Perforations are punched in a tight pattern that holds orzo and small grains without slowing a drain of full
pasta water. Two side handles give you a real grip when the bowl is heavy and steaming, and the rolled rim
keeps the edge kind to your hands.
Enamel over steel means it also works as a serving bowl for anything washed — berries, greens, new
potatoes — and looks like it belongs on the table rather than under the sink. About 4 quarts.
